What are you leaving behind?

Generation is a word that is used in very many different contexts. In the technology world it could mean the different computers that have existed where the hardware and software changes over time. The word could also mean the different age bands i.e. baby boomers, Generation X, Y and Z. Leaving all the above aside let us have a look at how it affects you and me in our daily lives.

I am born and raised from a generation and one day I will be blessed to have a generation and another generation from my generation. Have you ever wondered why you behave the way you do or sometimes do things in a certain manner. Often at times you will hear I would want to cook the way my mother cooks. Those secrets to cooking a certain dish the way your mother does. At times you will hear men say I want to own a business like my old man.

Growing up you watch and learn from your parents or guardians as they are your first teachers here on earth even before you went to school. They taught you how to feed yourself, clothe yourself, potty trained you. Some of these things you never forget even when you have our own family. We have some families locally that have done this but a higher percentage has not done it. Looking at our African context especially here in Kenya we have one generation having a certain skill or a certain tool of trade. This helps them excel and have multi-million businesses. Then the next generation gets the wealth and sustains it and the higher percentage gets the wealth but cannot sustain it.

The questions that I keep asking myself is why are these tools of trade not taught from one generation to another like the way our parents taught us how to dress or feed yourself? Is it me or we as the next generation are not interested in what our parents are doing and how they do their business? We seem to just enjoy the fruits of their labour? The other side would be do parents teach or trust us to run their businesses?

Interest is important and also teaching is important. It’s a 2 way street. We keep on learning every day, teach every day. Generations are impacted and tools of trade are passed from one generation to another. We will have a generation that is able to keep generating wealth but also know how to maintain the wealth. As I embark on this journey to create generational wealth and also ask you to look at your generation, make an impact, learn from your folks, guardians or even well-grounded neighbors that have made it. You can start by learning here

Proverbs 13:22 AMP: A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is stored up for [the hands of] the righteous.

This piece is written after getting revelation after attending Purpose and Leadership Forum at Kingdom Business solutions. Wealth is to be shared and even the tools that help you gain the wealth is to be shared. Our generations will be impacted which trickles down to a wealthy nation as our land is blessed and we have been blessed.
